Welcome! I'm Jen, a compassionate and dedicated trauma therapist specializing in supporting healthcare professionals and first responders who have experienced the unique challenges of their high-stress, emotionally demanding roles. As someone who deeply understands the emotional toll these professions can take, I focus on helping individuals navigate trauma, grief, burnout, and the effects of chronic stress. My approach is trauma-informed and client-centered, ensuring you feel heard, respected, and empowered to heal. I utilize evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to help individuals process and heal from the impact of traumatic experiences. Together, we'll work on building resilience, reducing symptoms of PTSD, and begin fostering post-traumatic growth so you can return to your life and work with a renewed sense of strength and balance. I'm a certified substance use counselor and have experience in co-occurring substance abuse and mental health diagnoses as well.
With over six years of experience working with healthcare providers, EMS, fire fighters, and law enforcement officers, I understand the specific challenges you face, including vicarious trauma, moral injury, and compassion fatigue. My goal is to provide a supportive space where you can process difficult emotions, reduce burnout, and reclaim your sense of self. I provide individual therapy for those who are seeking confidential, personalized support. I offer virtual sessions, so you can receive the help you need no matter your location or schedule, in your own private space. Contact me today to schedule a consultation or learn more about how we can work together to address the effects of trauma and help you find peace, both on and off the job.

Hi! I'm Emily, and I'm passionate about helping clients navigate life's ups and downs. I know from personal experience that navigating life's challenges, whether it's trauma or grief, or everyday stress can be overwhelming. That's why I create a safe, supportive space where my clients feel heard, valued and empowered. I earned my bachelor degree in psychology with a minor in Health Promotion from Michigan State University (MSU) in 2018. I went on to complete my master's in social work at MSU. In my work with children, adolescents and families, I've supported those navigating grief, trauma, anxiety and depression. I've also supported people with the unique challenges of neurodivergence. I have a neurodiversity-affirming approach. I am an advocate of honoring each person's individual strengths and needs and believe in celebrating the unique way our brain's work. My journey, both personally and professionally, has deepened my commitment to helping others heal,
grow and thrive. At my core, I value family, friendship, creativity, compassion and integrity. When I'm not working, I enjoy traveling and dreaming about all the places I still want to see. Music is a big part of my life. I enjoy going to concerts, singing and dancing whenever I get the chance. I also spend plenty of time with my "dog niece" as well as my five human nieces and nephews! And if you ever wonder what my favorite color is, it's always been pink! Therapy should feel comfortable and relatable. I am easy to talk to and I aim to make the process as easy for you as possible. Healing takes time but you don't have to do it alone _ I'm here to help. My ideal clients are ages 5-18+. I provide REMOTE therapy in Michigan to individuals and families. I specialize in depression, anxiety, neurodivergence (ADHD, autism, ect.), grief and trauma. I offer some evening and weekend appointments to best serve you!

About Best Life Therapy
Vicky Alvarez, LMSW, SSW, CCTP, CAGCS, Clinical Therapist and founder of Best Life Therapy (pictured above) has 28 years of experience working with adults, children and adolescents, couples and families. She has advanced certification in grief and trauma. Vicky has personally been impacted by emotional trauma associated with life changes. She has experienced both significant sudden loss and the gradual loss of loved ones. Vicky has the real-life experience and the clinical skills to support clients during some of their darkest days. Over the years, she has worked for numerous mental health clinics including Great Lakes Psychology Group, Genesys Hillside Center, Oakland Psychological Clinic and Hurley Mental Health Associates. She has also worked as a social worker for many school districts in Genesee County including Genesee Intermediate School District. Vicky opened her own practice, Best Life Therapy, in 2023.
Due to the success of her practice and the demand for services, Vicky made the decision to turn her solo practice into a group practice. She struggled with telling prospective new clients that she could not make an appointment for them when they called because her schedule was full. It seemed like everyone needed appointments after 4:00pm or on weekends. There was not enough time in the day for her to meet the needs of everyone who requested help. In 2024, she made the decision to launch her group practice starting in 2025. Vicky is committed to serving clients and wants to provide therapists with a supportive work environment. She has worked at larger group practices where the team never once met the owner and therapists did not support. There were no staff meetings or opportunities to connect with one another.
Feeling connected and supported at work is important. Vicky provides training, consultation and clinical supervision to her staff. She is passionate about offering quality supervision for other professionals. Apply today if you want to join our team. We believe in open communication and schedule times to have regular contact with our clinicians. We will strongly consider making employment offers to clinicians who can work evenings/weekends, have solid referral sources or current clients who they plan to bring to our group practice. We are carefully considering the location of our new offices. Our goal is to eventually offer more in-person sessions for clients across the state of Michigan. We believe that therapists also deserve to live their best life!
